Important Announcement
Eaton Learning Centre is closing its doors, September 22nd, 2008
After providing psycho-educational assessments for over 13 years, Eaton Learning Centre is closing its doors. I started conducting educational assessments in my mother-in-law’s basement home office in 1995 and slowly developed the business over the years, working with a group of wonderful psychologists and educational assessors providing assessments, tutoring, workshops and consulting. Sandra Heusel, Sarah Howard, Leslie Coull, Ron Pearson, Emily Stuible, Ken Langford, and Rose Atkins are a few of the current and former staff members at Eaton Learning Centre who have made a huge difference in many lives over the last 13 years.
I will now focus more of my attention to the development of educational programs focused on the cognitive remediation of learning disabilities and/or attention disorders. Currently, I am the Director of the Eaton Arrowsmith School (EAS) located at the University of British Columbia campus (www.eatonarrowsmithschool.com). This school is designed to remediate learning disabilities through cognitive training exercises combined with systematic language and math remediation. The success of the school has taken up a lot of my time over the last 4 years. EAS has grown remarkably quickly as news spread of the success of our graduates returning to public and private schools after completing the 2-4 year program. A Victoria campus of Eaton Arrowsmith School will be opening in September of 2009. I have also opened the Eaton Brain Improvement Centre (www.eatonbrainimprovement.com), located at Oakridge Centre in Vancouver, 7 months ago. This centre provides a program that strengthens the cognitive abilities of young adults, adults and seniors through brain training.
Conducting and reviewing psycho-educational assessments has been a significant part of my life, and psycho-educational assessments have benefited many families; nevertheless, I believe that professionals in the fields of Learning Disabilities and Neuroscience are combining their expertise in order to provide a solution in dealing with school failure and achievement difficulties. As a result, my focus and passion are now on the realities of brain neuroplasticity and the potential of children with learning disabilities and/or attention disorders to re-design their brain so they no longer have to struggle with the cognitive weaknesses that result in their learning problems. I am excited about moving away from compensating or bypassing an individual’s learning disability to changing their brain for better life outcomes.
I would like to thank you for your trust and support over the years, and I hope that we can continue working together towards a brighter future for individuals with learning disabilities.
Sincerely,
Howard Eaton, Ed.M.
